More life up there than down here

I was reading on a messageboard today and someone started a thread about the old SETI@home project. I used to run it but after a plague of corrupt hard drives over the years I eventually stopped reinstalling it and went without screen savers altogether.

Today, I figured, 'what the hey?' and downloaded the program. There hasn't been much of an outcome yet after years of running the project but it's like the lottery... you only have to win once and all is forgotten. The SETI@home website still claims 2 million hits a day (although the news page hasn't been updated since last May). You never know when they'll come across something.

I also have the idea for a sci-fi short story so I figured this would help put me in the mood to write it.

Happy New Year's!

Here's the first quick post for 2005. Yeji and I spent the evening having supper at Tammy and Colin's and catching the new year celebrations on the tv.

I'm still considering New Year's resolutions though. It think I'd like to promise myself more personal accomplishments, at least from the context of things I'd like to do. I had a long list of 'to do's when I was overseas and quite of few of them slipped by with the business of last year. Having so few nice, hot days in the summer also tampered with motivation.

It's my hope to establish a more normal routine at work and then be able to plan more activities. I have someone working with me at the office now and it's beginning to make a big difference. Slowly things are adjusting to greater normalcy.
