I'm starting to develop a routine, finally. One of the biggest changes this week was with Yeji landing a job. She's going to be doing some housekeeping duties at the hotel which is directly behind my office. That means I don't even have to switch parking spaces. It's incredibly convenient. She goes in to work for 8am so that's also been a motivator to get my days back on track and into standard daylight hours. It's 8:30am right now and I've been in the office for over half an hour already.

As Shelley wrote in the comments, Friday was my 30th birthday. The more noticeable change occurred the day before though. I was getting tired of the heat in the office, and also becoming a bit more conscious of me getting into the mundane business world more and more. On Thursday, I popped down to Jerry's Barbershop and got a major, earth-shattering trim. The beard's gone too. Wouldn't you know it though? I went next door to buy cigarettes from the same store I always go to... and the carded me! At thirty years of age!

Friday itself was somewhat relaxed. I attended the opening ceremony of the Irish Festival and spent the rest of the afternoon at work. We had cake after supper and then I took Yeji out driving for a while. She's still a bit timid behind the wheel but there are lots of country roads to practice on here.

Saturday we visited Colin and Tammy's for a delicious barbecue (her birthday was Monday too, so there's been lots of cake floating around). This week so far has been work, work, work.

On the office front, after already cutting my hair off, the landlord came by and fixed the air conditioner. The other office, which has the thermostat, was found to be 25 deg. Celsius. We guess that my office must have been a rather consistent 30 degrees. Anyway... it's much cooler now.

Dark skies of July

Things have been getting busier lately. Since Yeji's arrived, we've been doing our best to organize our schedules but it's a bit tricky. I have to be at the office to get work done, which is also where the only high-speed internet computer we have is located. To make matters worse, the home computer also died over the weekend and will need to have it's OS reinstalled.

Besides that, we had a great trip to Halifax for Canada Day Weekend. We sort've almost caught the fireworks Thursday night. We had trouble seeing them beyond the crowd of people on the waterfront, but maybe more impressive was that we got a parking spot next to Perks! .. And that wasn't by showing up early either. We caught Spiderman 2 beforehand so it was about 9:30'ish that we got downtown.

Friday was my day to do some street hiking and check out some old haunts. We were staying with our friend Kim, so the two of them did a little shopping. I made my way through the Public Gardens and Point Pleasant Park. It was my first time to witness the damage of Hurricane Juan. Don't get angry, but I think that the Public Gradens actually look better. To compensate for the missing trees, it appears they've gone all out into landscaping. They look beautiful and serene.

Point Pleasant was a different story. The further in you travel, the more trees seem to be missing. At first, the open spaces seemed okay there too. They revealed a lot of landscape features that had been hidden as long as I remember. But it quickly became too much. A hundred yards in and it looks like Tunguska. A terrible loss.

Friday night we went to another movie, Farenheit 9/11. Apparently it was the number one movie in metro the weekend before-- yet it only opened on ONE screen (Oxford). This night they opened additional screens, including Bayer's Lake which is where we went. The lineups for Spiderman 2 and Farenheit 9/11 were indistinguishable and ubiquitous.

Saturday was a last minute shopping day, followed by glow-in-the-dark mini golf and then glow-in-the-dark bowling. Afterwards, we went to Ginger's on Barrington for drinks, met a couple of other friends, known electronically as Elfinhippie and Lilac, and had a swell time.

Now I'm back and it's a return to work. I really hope to announce something here shortly but I feel like I need secrecy if everything's going to come together. Suffice to say I've been buried in Photoshop and Pagemaker, and on the phone arranging quotes and timetables. More will follow...

You are an SEDF--Sober Emotional Destructive Follower. This makes you an evil genius. You are extremely focused and difficult to distract from your tasks. With luck, you have learned to channel your energies into improving your intellect, rather than destroying the weak and unsuspecting.

Your friends may find you remote and a hard nut to crack. Few of your peers know you very well--even those you have known a long time--because you have expert control of the face you put forth to the world. You prefer to observe, calculate, discern and decide. Your decisions are final, and your desire to be right is impenetrable.

You are not to be messed with. You may explode.

Take the test yourself.
